Elizabeth Kaldeck Smith began her career in the late 1960’s as a learning disabilities specialist. In her roles as a teacher and educational evaluator, she worked closely with classroom teachers, parents, speech pathologists, school psychologists, and other professionals to identify special needs children and to develop appropriate individualized programs for them.
Elizabeth enjoyed teaching on the elementary and middle school levels and eventually became a Team Chairperson and Program Head. In these roles, she had supervisory duties, worked collaboratively with all stakeholders, and provided professional development for teachers.
Following her retirement in 2002, Elizabeth Kaldeck Smith continued her work in the field of special education when she formed Educational Advocacy Services. In this role, she used her public school experience to advantage and worked directly with parents as an advocate and consultant to help them obtain needed services for their children. She retired as an advocate in 2008..
Elizabeth is devoted to Holocaust history and education. She donated a multitude of her father’s Holocaust related primary source documents to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. She found these documents in her family’s home. Elizabeth hired translators to help decipher these documents written in German, Spanish, Portuguese, and Yiddish. This helped her create a narrative of what happened to her family.
Elizabeth is currently a writer with nine published stories on Medium.com. Her first story on Medium was “Finding My Family’s Holocaust History.” https://medium.com/@elizabeth-kaldeck-smith
